The Journey of a Leaf

When you open a bag from Hooked On Hay, it’s easy to see the finished product. Crisp leaves, colourful botanicals, and carefully packed treats - all ready to spoil your little companions.

What you don’t see is the journey each leaf, veg, fruit, flower, herb takes before it reaches our pantry.

Every batch begins with careful selection. We only choose leaves that are suitable for rabbits and guinea pigs, and we always look for healthy, clean foliage. Nature does things in her own time, so every season brings something a little different.

Once collected, the leaves are gently prepared and dried via air-drying or dehydrator. Drying helps preserve their natural goodness while allowing us to store them safely for future treats and blends. It’s not a process that can be rushed. Good things take time.

After drying, each batch is checked before joining our growing pantry shelves. From there, the leaves may become part of a botanical blend, a forage mix, or an ingredient in one of our handmade treats.

It’s a slower way of doing things, but we believe that’s part of the charm. We care about knowing where our ingredients come from and taking the time to prepare them with the same care we’d use for our own Bunbun and piggies.

Behind every handful of leaves is a little bit of patience and a lot of love for small animals.

Thank you for supporting our little meadow. Every order helps us continue creating wholesome treats inspired by nature, one leaf at a time.

P.S Quality Asssurance Manager Bunbun would like it noted that all mulberry leaves receive ‘very thorough’ inspections. We suspect this may simply be an excuse to ask for seconds.
